Good day dreamy crocheters, it’s the start of a new week, new challenges. Maybe new projects or finishing off current ones no matter what I know you are doing an amazing job. But if you are feeling down and needing a pick up and a little motivation then this week’s crocheting fact is just for you.
I have always been a fan of random facts ever since I was a child. Anything strange, interesting, random, you name it I loved it. I could sit for ever just finding out random facts about anything and everything . So now I have decided to integrate that with my passion of crocheting by having weekly facts.
This week we will be going back in time with a story of crocheting showing survival and resilience. In the late 1840’s during the Irish potato famine, many people needed to make a living and they turned to crocheting to do so. They created an intricate lace pattern, that we now know today as Irish crochet.
These garments went on to be sold all across Europe and America. This did not only help the survival of the people but it also preserved the beautiful art of crochet.
So if you feel like giving up on that project that you have sitting next to you or in your room. Come on go pick it up. You can do it, you never know maybe that will be your success for 2025.
As we can see crocheting is a truly beautiful art and as we have learnt this week it got many families through a great famine. It created an opportunity for an income. But could it have also helped with the stress and anxiety of the situation they were under at the time. As we know crocheting is very therapeutic. If you have any thoughts please feel free to share. Other wise I hope you enjoyed this week’s crocheting fact.
Keep crocheting dreams.
