Good day, Dreamy crocheters.
This week’s fact is one for all the art lovers out there and those that love vibrant colors.
Have you ever heard of the term yarn bombing? It is like graffiti only you are using yarn. You are able to create beautiful colors, patterns and bring a new life to a dull space or spread a message.
To create these works of art the artist usually makes the piece beforehand. They then take the necessary measurements and install the pieces around the objects they were designed for e.g trees, benches, light pole and bikes and more.
Yarn bombing is believed to have originated in the US in 2005 by shop owner Magda Sayeg, who was unhappy with her surroundings and decided to knit a doorknob cosy for the shop.
Yarn bombing has also been used as a political statement or to bring awareness to important issues in the world today. One example of this controversial act came from Kristina Kroemer. She was interested in her towns WWII history. Her cause was simply- good vs evil
She covered the tank that was outside the military museum, creating an anti-military statement.
Other yarn bombings have also taken place around the world to make people aware of different topics. Such as HIV/ADS in South Africa, a Diabetes protect in Australia and the War in Ukraine.
Have any of you dreamy crocheters seen yarn bombing before?
Keep crocheting dreams.
